A family accesssible trip to the Galapagos Islands
An accessible adventure
So I feel pretty qualified to review accessible tours. I’ve enjoyed the good fortune to travel to over 30 countries and during my most recent trips. I started using accessible tour companies so that I can enjoy the activities with my family. I’ve stayed in the hotel while my family goes out on fun adventures for the last time. By far, my most enjoyable trip to-date has been to the Galapagos with Latin America
For All.
The daily adventures were well organized, easy and, most importantly, fun. I felt a bit guilty as I was carried around like a princess in comfort while my guide, Juan, pushed or pulled my wheelchair over rocks, through brush, across the sand or anywhere else I wanted to go. One day, he even forged a new path through heavy brush to take me to a remote beach so that I could watch my son surf nearby.
Visiting the turtle breeding center was a highlight for our family and it would have been impossible without Juan and his helper, one in front and the other in back, navigating the steep, rocky path. I’ve never gotten such cheerful, helpful assistance. They made carting me around look easy, even though I know it couldn’t have been.
Another highlight was our kayaking trip. We had a pod of young sea lions following us and playing around us for the entire two-hour outing. We weaved around the shore and saw all manner of birds including the Blue Footed Booby.
Juan arranged for us to go snorkeling at Kicker Rock on a catamaran. The guides made transferring from the dock to the boat safe and easy. We had good equipment, wetsuits and snorkling gear for the whole week. The catamaran was wide open and very comfortable. There were abundant sea turtles and some small black tip sharks.
The water was the most beautiful colors I have ever seen.
I loved San Cristobal. It’s quaint with an easy boardwalk to small shops and numerous restaurants and bars.
I am already looking forward to my next trip with Latin America For All!
